About
About Is God Mean?
A book and free video series that takes on the Bible’s hardest stories and finds God’s loving motives in every one.
How it started
Hard questions from friends
When Chris saw several friends begin to deconstruct their faith, they were wrestling with questions nobody had helped them answer. How could a loving God flood the world? Did He really command genocide? Why would He allow slavery? Chris decided to take those questions head on, and the free video series Is God Mean? was born.
Ten years of study in history, archaeology, and the original languages of the Bible later, those answers became the book. It’s written for anyone who has wondered whether the God of the Bible is really good, and for anyone who wants to help a friend who’s asking.
The approach
How Chris handles the hard questions
No pat answers
Every chapter faces the hardest version of the question, without explaining away what the text actually says.
Evidence, not opinion
Chris draws on history, archaeology, and the original Hebrew and Greek to understand what the Bible meant to its first readers.
Honest where Christians differ
On debated passages like Genesis 6, Chris says plainly what he believes, why, and where sincere believers disagree.
